It seems that, for some, believing in heaven (or the afterlife of your choice) doesn’t automatically mean you’re in a hurry to get there. A study at the Dana-Faber Cancer Institute found that among 345 terminal cancer patients, those who prayed regularly were more than three times more likely to receive intensive life-prolonging care than those who relied least on religion. Now, the authors don’t speculate on why more religious patients might not opt for living wills, or do-not-rescusitate orders, but I suspect the irrational pro-life-at-any-cost thinking could be behind it. Not to mention that maybe, they’re not so confident of what’s on the other side, when they’re facing it. Nah, that couldn’t be it.
